Svenskt Flygkonst - De Havilland J28 Vampire
With the development of SAAB's J29, the Flygvapen required a stop-gap jet fighter. It chose the De Havilland Vampire and purchased 70 FB.1 aircraft in 1946. Designated J28A, the Vampire would replace the ageing J21 and J22 and serve with F13 Norrkoping Wing. In spite of original intentions the Vampire proved such a success in Swedish service that a more capable version, the FB.Mk 50, was ordered in 1949. 310 of these aircraft were delivered, serving until after the Tunnan's entry into service in 1956. With the FB.Mk.50, designated J28B, Sweden also took delivery of 57 T.Mk.11 aircraft, known as the J28C, the last of these serving until 1968.
