Gloster Meteor Birthday Greetings Card by Aviation Artist Eric Bottomley

After the end of WWII, the RAF was able to rebuild its squadrons with the two new jet fighters then coming in to service. The Gloster Meteor had been Britain's first jet fighter to enter service in 1944 and while they were not used in combat against German fighters, they did play an important role against the V-1 flying bomb. By the end of the war the improved F.3 version had been introduced and the Meteor would continue to serve until the late 1950s in a number of guises. These aircraft are post-war marks and are seen flying over the Severn Bridge
