S.S Strathnaver was built at the Vickers Armstrong yard and launched on 5th February 1931. She commenced her maiden voyage to Australia on 1st October 1931, serving this route for much of her career. The painting shows her in her initial form which was altered after WWII with the first and third funnels being removed. She served until February 1962 when she was broken up in Hong Kong
