Hawker Siddeley Nimrod Aviation Art Print by Artist Graham Holme

Developed from the De Havilland Comet, the Nimrod was conceived as a Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft to replace the ageing fleet of Avro Shackletons and entered service in the early 1970s. in the Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) role. Although a successful aircraft in its intended role, developments such as the Airborne Early Warning version and the much improved MR.4 version were both shelved due to over-running budgets and continual delays. The aircraft was finally retired in 2011 after having seen service over the skies during conflicts in the Falklands, Iraq and Afghanistan.

As well as serving as a combat aircraft, Nimrod also undertook the important Search and Rescue role.
