As the scourge of U-Boat commanders from 1941 onwards, the Consolidated PBY Catalina was used in considerable numbers by the squadrons of Coastal Command. Flying from bases the length and breadth of Britain and from abroad, ever vigilant ‘Cat’ crews could pounce on any surfaced and later submerged U-Boat.
