Swedish concentration on defence and fighter aircraft left a gap in the medium bomber/ reconnaissance roles that would not be fulfilled until the entry of the SAAB S18 in 1944. The aircraft was to undertake numerous roles and had the honour of being the final piston engined design in service when the last one was withdrawn in 1959. The aircraft shown here is the SAAB S18A reconnaissance version, identified by the radar pod under the nose and comes from 112th squadron of 11th wing.
