The locomotives intended to haul these trains were larger, more powerful versions of William Stanier’s successful Princess class. Forever known as the ‘Duchess’ class, the first, 6220 “Coronation”, was outshopped from Crewe works in May 1937. The striking Blue/Silver livery and the challenge to the LNER’s dominance of high speed running to Scotland proved an irresistible draw for the British public and when it was announced that the speed record for steam had been broken at 114mph, the LMS had one of the finest locomotives in the world.

Malcolm Root FGRA’s railway birthday card shows 6220 “Coronation” powering along with the special set of coaches produced for the train.

Key Features

Measures 7" x 5" (177mm x 127mm)

Ideal for any occasion, especially birthdays and Father's Day

Includes envelope

The card is Blank inside, ready for a heartfelt message.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0549/1172/9848/products/the_20coronation_20scot_20s-500x500.jpg?v=1615257803
malcolm-root-sussex-spectacle-lbsc-atlantic
Sussex Spectacle - LBSC Atlantic

Railway Art Blank Birthday and Greetings Card of a London, Brighton & South Coast Railway Marsh Atlantic by Malcolm Root FGRA

Many of the locomotives from the earlier part of the 20th Century are absolutely stunning and are well represented by this Marsh Atlantic. Built for the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway from 1911, the Marsh Atantics came in two guises, the earlier H1 designed by Marsh himself and the H2, which was built to a similar design, with improved superheater, by his assistant, Lawson Billinton. The Atlantic wheel arrangement of 4-4-2 would lose its appeal not long after the introduction of these locomotives as more powerful 4-6-0 and 4-6-2 locomotives would be introduced. These stunning locomotives carried on until the early part of the 1950s and the last of the class, 32424 Beachy Head was the last British Atlantic in service. While the locomotive was scrapped, a reconstruction effort was undertaken in the mid-1980s, made possible by the discovery of a suitable boiler. Railway Birthday Card by Malcolm Root FGRA

The metals of the former Great Eastern Railway became the spot for some of the best runs by the B.R Standard 7P class locomotives, universally known as “Britannias”, after the first engine of the class. The locomotive here, 70009 Alfred the Great became a familiar sight on the two most famous trains to depart from London Liverpool Street station, namely the “Hook of Holland” and “The Broadsman”. Classmate 70013 Oliver Cromwell would go on to haul one of the two last steam-hauled trains on British Railways and is now, happily, preserved in full working condition and can sometimes be seen working trains on its former home route.

Product Features

Measures 7" x 5" (177mm x 127mm)

Also an excellent choice for Father's Day and Retirements.

Includes envelope

Blank inside for your own meaningful message

Fowler Traction Engine Threshing sometime in the 1920s-1930s by Transport Artist Malcolm Root FGRA

The essential piece of farm machinery in the first half of the twentieth century, the traction engine was to remain in place on some farms well into the second half.
