Following in the line of ships that had included the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth, QE2 was handed over to Cunard by the John Brown shipyard in 1969 and became as internationally acclaimed as the ships already mentioned. Despite the reduction in sea-travel with the advent of ever longer ranged and faster jet airliners, QE2 operated a fantastic service that allowed her to pioneer the modern-day cruise with the occasional Ocean crossing for people wishing to experience it.
