Arctic Convoy- HMS Edinburgh
HMS Edinburgh Royal Navy Cruiser Arctic Convoy Marine Painting Art Print by Maritime Artist Roger H. Middlebrook GAvA
Convoy duty to the USSR was one of the most loathed jobs undertaken by sailors of both the Royal and Merchant Navies. With few hours of daylight and constant threat of attack from aircraft, U-boats and surface raiders the convoys suffered a great number of casualties. One such casualty was HMS Edinburgh, seen here on convoy O.P 11, which was sunk with a large amount of gold bullion aboard.
