In the latter part of the 1960s BOAC operated a varied fleet of aircraft. The Vickers VC-10 was used in two models and, although popular with both pilots & passengers, the VC10 was a commercial disaster for the manufacturer with only 40 aircraft of the 54 built being sold to airlines. The aircraft was tailor-made for BOAC’s ‘hot and high’ routes and possessed many great qualities. In the end though it was outsold by American designs.
