The immediate post-war period saw a huge and swift change to the jet with most developed nations having produced at least one jet design of note by 1950. These aircraft were not without fault and even through to the 1960s, piston-engine aircraft could be found on secondary duties. With the invention of the turbo-prop and turbo-fan propulsion systems these secondary duties were, for the most part, taken over by new designs.
