Roy Cross RSMA, GAvA Aviation and Marine Limited Edition Art Prints
The name Roy Cross is known throughout the world for the time he spent as chief box-art illustrator for Airfix, a company that would later honour him with two books looking at his work in the aviation art field.
His time with Airfix was preceded by a number of years as an illustrator for publications such as Flight, Air Review, Inter Avia and Aeroplane, which along with both private and business commissions saw the young Roy Cross being elevated to a high place within the burgeoning Aviation Art scene in the U.K. His first book as sole writer and illustrator was published in 1952.
A lover of traditional marine art, Roy produced a painting of a Clipper ship to give to the chief buyer at Airfix, the painting becoming something of a sensation with all who saw it and this became the required 'push' for him to move into the Marine Art world and away from that of illustration.
This was in the early 1970s and since then he has become one of the most sought after artists in the field, some original paintings now exceeding $65,000 on the second-hand market.
After a life-time of painting aircraft and ships, Roy Cross retired from all forms of painting in the early 2000s. He has since asked Hansen Fine Art to promote his art as Limited Edition prints and we are exceeding happy to so.
