Fiat CR.42 Fighter Airplane Aviation Art Limited Edition Print - Battle of Britain by Aviation Artist Darryl Legg

With Mussolini's declaration of war against Britain and France in June 1940, Italy's air force was to operate mainly around the Mediterranean. However during the Battle of Britain an expeditionary force of some 203 aircraft consisting of Fiat CR.42 and G.50 fighters along with BR.20 bombers participated in several bombing raids against Britain in October 1940. The Italian aircraft were to come off rather poorly against the Hurricane and Spitfire, with the Fiat CR.42 in the RAF Museum, Hendon being an aircraft forced down during open of these raids, though not through enemy action, rather a broken oil pipe.

The CR.42 seen in Darryl Legg's Limited Edition Art Print provides an interesting contrast to the likes of the Spitfire, Hurricane and Bf-109 but fully deserves its place in the annals of aviation history as one of the last of its breed to be used in combat.

Darryl Legg's Aviation Art Print shows a CR.42 on escort duty for BR.20.

Our LIMITED EDITION ART PRINT of only 50 COPIES has an image size of 14" x 10.5"
