McDonnell F3D Skyknight Limited Edition Art Print - VMF(N)-513 by Aviation Artist Darryl Legg
While the F-86 Sabre rightly takes centre stage in discussions regarding fighter combat during the Korean War, several other types achieved reasonable levels of success, with the Douglas F3D Skyknight being one of these.
The F3D had entered service in 1951 as the US Navy's first jet night fighter as a design by the legendary Ed Heinemann. While principally a Navy type, the aircraft went to Korea with the Marine Corps. The first successful action took place on the night of 2 November 1952 when an aircraft of VMF(N)-513 shot down a MiG-15 (sometimes reported as a Yakolev Yak-15).
Darryl Legg's Aviation Art Painting shows an aircraft of VMF(N)-513 in action with a Mig-15, the squadron leaving Korean having scored six confirmed kills.
Our LIMITED EDITION ART PRINT of only 50 COPIES has an image size of 14" x 9.25.
