Short Belfast Royal Air Force 1960s Aviation Art Print Painting by Artist Chris French
The heavy-lift capability of the Short Belfast allowed it to carry the largest types of artillery, armaments and vehicles. Initially suffering from suction drag problems which reduced performance, the aircraft was modified and cruising speed was increased from 275mph to 315mph.
The aircraft seen here is XR367 ‘Heracles’. This was the first Belfast delivered to the RAF (though the sixth off the production line). Delivered to 53 Sqn at Brize Norton in January 1966, depicted later in it’s service life, after the drag reduction mods and after the RAF had named the ten aircraft after mythical Greek giants.
We currently have the original oil on canvas painting available for sale. This comes framed, varnished and ready to hang and with an overall measurement of 36" x 24" (90cm x 60cm)
