The Dieppe raid of May 1942 was an abysmal failure and resulted in the loss of a large number of men and machines. It was also however the point at which 331 Squadron entered combat on a large scale. Here one of the units Spitfire Mk.V, displaying full Dieppe markings, engages a Focke-Wulf Fw-190, an aircraft that was superior to the Mk.V in almost every respect.
