Just three days after this photograph was taken
the Beatles performed their last ever concert at candlestick Park, the
legendary home of the Giants baseball team and later the 49ers American
Football team. The city was awash with music that year as the Yardbirds,
Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane and the Beach
Boys all headlined. Allen Ginsberg read his poetry and there were
anti-Vietnam war marches.
For the first time that year, as people flocked to San Francisco, the airport exceeded 10 million passengers. The jet age was an economic success.
United Airlines was the biggest in the world
after their merger with Capital but as their fleet of Douglas DC-8s, Boeing
720s and 727s grew there was still room for their ageing propliner fleet.
Two sizes are available. The 13" image is limited to 30 copies, while the 20" version is limited to 20 copies
