Handley Page Halifax Aircraft Blank Birthday Card by Chris French GAvA

Yorkshire and Lincolnshire will forever be synonymous with Bomber Command during WWII and a misty, murky Yorkshire day provides the backdrop for a mid-mark Handley-Page Halifax. The B.III version of the bomber is distinguished by the clear bubble nose, Bristol Hercules engines and squared-off fins, while retaining the shorter square tip wings of earlier marks. These changes made the Halifax far more effective, though it was still viewed as second best by those in charge of Bomber Command operations.

This particular aircraft probably belongs to a squadron of either No.4 or No.6 (RCAF) group, both of which operated squadrons from Yorkshire bases. These included Elvington, where a restored B.III can be seen to this day.
