Eagle Hurricane - Hawker Hurricane Mk.II

71 Eagle Squadron Hawker Hurricane Aviation Art Print by Aircraft Artist Charles J. Thompson GAvA

Becoming active in September 1940 with the Brewster Buffalo, 71 Sqn were held back from the Battle of Britain as the aircraft was deemed unsuitable for the European Theatre. Upon arrival of the Hurricane Mk.I in November, the Squadron was made operational as the American Volunteer "Eagle Squadron" and received the improved Mk.II, seen here, in April 1941. The squadron later moved on to the Spitfire Mk.II and Mk.V before transferring to the USAAF, along with the other two Eagle Squadrons to form the 4th Fighter Group.
