For Valour - Consolidated Liberator Mk.V

Consolidated Liberator RAF Coastal Command Painting Art Print by Charles J. Thompson GAvA

A Lockheed Liberator GR.V of 200 Squadron, RAF Coastal Command piloted by New Zealander Flying Officer Lloyd Allan Trigg and his crew of eight, based at Yundum on the west coast of Africa is shown sinking the German U-boat U-468 on 11th August 1943. The Liberator however was severely damaged and crashed close to the U-boat killing all the crew, which allowed the few survivors of the U-boat to use its rubber dinghy. They were picked up by a Royal Navy destroyer and on their recommendation Lloyd Trigg was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross
