Between the wars was undoubtedly the "Golden Age" for liners with few things more prized by the lines operating the North Atlantic route than the Blue Riband. Awarded for fastest crossing of the Atlantic, Nord-Deutscher Lloyd lines Bremen held the riband after her maiden voyage in 1929.
