Gladiator At Rest - Gloster Gladiator
Shuttleworth Collection Gloster Gladiator by Artist Charles J. Thompson ASAA, GAvA
The Shuttleworth Collection at Biggleswade, Bedfordshire is the premier collection of pre 1939 aircraft in Britain and probably the world. With a large number of 30s era biplanes, one of the collections most prized exhibits is this one, Gladiator G-AMRK. For many years the sole flying Gladiator anywhere in the world it has now been joined by the Old Flying Machine Company one at Duxford with a third undergoing restoration to flying condition as this is written. This particular aircraft was presented to the collection by Hawker Aircraft for safe-keeping in 1960 and has since worn five colour schemes. The artist chose her second scheme as L8032, one of 72 Squadron’s aircraft during 1937.
