In The Beginning - Supermarine Spitfire Prototype K5054
Supermarine Spitfire Prototype K5054 Over Eastleigh Works Aviation Art Print by Aircraft Artist Charles J. Thompson GAvA
Flying over Supermarine's Eastleigh works where she had been built, K5054 is seen in her second guise of a very pale blue/grey with silver fittings. Flown by pilots such as Mutt Summers and Jeffrey Quil, the aircraft would be the first of over thirty separate marks of Spitfire and Seafire.
Charles J. Thompson has had a great many years painting Spitfires and this evolved into a project for the Guild of Aviation Artists Exhibition where he painted the story of the aircraft in six very different paintings.
