John Hancox - Honda CB 72
Honda CB 72 250cc Motorcycle Motorbike Cafe Racer Birthday Card by John Hancox
The 250cc CB72 was a sensation overnight with the small engine managing to power the standard machine to a 90mph top speed, even more with a little tuning. The upright twin configuration was very typical of other, especially British, motorcycles of the time but had been so thoroughly tested that it was ultra-reliable. Its standard features of twin leading shoe brake and comfortable handling also made it a winner and it is not surprising that a number were turned into cafe racer trim.
This idea worked superbly and Hondas won the 125cc, 250cc and 350cc classes in 1962 and the 250cc and 350cc in 1963. By 1966 success was to come again with Mike Hailwood blazing to glory in both the '66 and '67 seasons.
