Shuttleworth Spit - Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb
Supermarine Spitfire Mk.V AR501- Shuttlewortth Collection
One of the premier collections in Britain, the Shuttleworth Collection at Biggleswade, Bedfordshire presents around 35 flying examples of some of the earliest flying machines anywhere in the world.
Among its youngest exhibits is Spitfire Mk.V, AR501, built by Westland Aircraft at Yeovil and issued to 310 (Czech) Squadron in 1942. The aircraft was acquired by the collection in 1961 in return for its restoration and use in the film Battle of Britain. Among its wartime exploits were several missions escorting bombers of the USAAF 8th Air Force, including the B-17F “Memphis Belle”.
Now returned to its original colours, the aircraft can be seen making numerous airshow displays across Britain each year.
The original oil painting from which this print is produced hangs in the public restaurant at the Collection
