Sunderland Sunset - Short Sunderland
Short Sunderland WWII Flying Boat Aviation Art Painting Print by Artist Charles J. Thompson GAvA, ASAA
This evocative piece shows the last flying boat to serve with the RAF, Short's Sunderland. During WWII, the Sunderland became famous for its Convoy escort and anti- U Boat patrols, which could last for 16 hours or more. With these long hours and very little but wide expanses of ocean to look at, boredom was an ever-present danger and the crews rotated positions around the gun positions and were able to have hot drinks and meals from the on board kitchen to try and keep them awake and alert.
