The Lone Ranger - De Havilland Vampire Sk28C
De Havilland produced the Vampire trainer almost as an after-thought, it originally being designed as a night fighter. Designated as the Mk.50 series for overseas markets, the standard T.11 was numbered as the T.Mk55, this export version having minor differences to the standard Mk.11. Sweden’s interest in the type came after several crashes and 45 were purchased, the first 30 carrying full armament, the remainder being un-armed and known as T.Mk.55A. These aircraft were delivered straight to the Swedish fighter wings but would be supplemented by the rebuilding of 12 single-seat aircraft in the Flygvapnet’s own workshop at Malmen for use at the Swedish Flight Academy at Ljungbyhed. It is one of these aircraft, serving with wing F5 that is shown.
