Vickers Wellington - Aircraft of the RAF DVD
Royal Air Force DVD on the Vickers Wellington Bomber of WWII
When the Vickers Wellington appeared it propelled the RAF into a new realm of technical and striking ability. Designed in response to an urgent call for more modern aircraft, the Wellington, along with its two contemporaries, the Whitley and the Hampden formed the basis of Bomber Command's strength in the first two years of WWII. Unlike the other two aircraft though, the 'Wimpey' as her crews called her was a versatile aircraft that remained in RAF service well into the 1950s.
Using wartime footage and interviews with crews and the head of Vickers, Sir George Edwards, the DVD gives an intimate portrait of what life in Bomber Command was like.
