Brooklands Racing Circuit Centenary Painting Motorsport Art Print by Motoring Artist Richard Wheatland
Brooklands is a subject that the artist has always been interested in. His decision to display paintings came after a visit to a The Roy Nockolds Memorial Exhibition in London in 1980, Roy being a well known painter of motor racing and aviation at Brooklands. Richard's first display of paintings in 1983 was held at an enthusiast event at the historic site of Brooklands near Weybridge in Surrey.
This painting was
conceived throughout 2006 in the lead up to the Centenary Year in 2007; Richard
worked extensively with both The Brooklands Museum and Brooklands Society
archivist Tony Hutchings to ensure the scene was as correct as it could be.
This wasn’t an easy task since very few photographs of the first race meeting
survive. The painting was displayed at various celebration events in 2007
before finding its current owner, a collector who it turned out, had very
little interest in Brooklands, he just liked the painting. It was a great
opportunity to be part of such a historic event.
