As one of the most successful units of the Battle of Britain, 609 Sqn is a favourite with many artists. Here one of the squadron's Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I is shown attacking a Messerschmitt Bf.110. The much vaunted and up to that point successful German design, championed by Goering was to be found wanting when faced by the far more agile Hurricane and Spitfire.
