First deliveries of the Allison-engined Mustang
to RAF units occurred in 1942 with the equipping of 26 Squadron. The aircraft
seen here are Mustang I from 309 (Polish) Squadron. The squadron would use the
Mk.I until November 1944 when the improved Mustang III (P-51B) arrived.
