North Africa debut - 81 Squadron in Algiers
Equipped with the Mk.Vc variant of the Supermarine Spitfire, armed with four 20mm Hispano cannons, 81 Squadron arrived in North Africa in November 1942. Flying from Maison Blanche airfield, Fl. Lt Alan M Peart DFC, flying his Spitfire Mk.Vc, FL-D, is seen over Bone Harbour, Algeria on December 1st 1942.
Alan followed a SM-84 into the clouds until it drifted into view where Alan promptly shot it down thus claiming the first of his six aerial victories.
