The painting depicts a pair of 23 Sqn. Phantom FGR2s heading North West over Saunders Island on a Combat Air Patrol in the mid 1980s.
After the Falklands War, 23 Squadron were stationed in the Islands until reduced to Flight strength in 1988, whereupon the squadron number was transferred to a Squadron of the new Tornado F.3 fighters. 1435 Flight took over defence duties of the island and are today equipped with the Eurofighter Typhoon.
