Folland Gnat Central Flying School Aviation Art Print by Artist Paul Couper AGAvA

Designed by Teddy Petter who had earlier designed the Westland Lysander , English Electric Canberra and Lightning, the Gnat was a development of the private venture Midge.

Originally intended as a Lightweight fighter design, the aircraft has become more widely known as a trainer with the RAF only using the aircraft in this capacity. This particular aircraft comes from the Central Flying School at Little Rissington where the first aircraft were delivered in 1962. The RAF retired its last Gnat in 1978 when it was replaced by the Hawker-Siddeley Hawk.
