Entering service with 111 Squadron in 1990, the F.3 Air Defence Variant
of the Panavia Tornado would remain the units main equipment until disbandment
came in 2011, by which time they were the last unit using the aircraft. With
disbandment came the breaking of a link between the squadron and its base, RAF
Leuchars which had begun in 1975.
