Bristol Beaufighter Aviation Art Print by Darryl Legg

The "Beau" Down Under - Royal Australian Air Force Beaufighters

Rugged, versatile and hard-hitting, the Bristol Beaufighter became one of the most effective strike aircraft of the Second World War. While the Mk.VI variant was initially supplied to Australia from British production lines, later examples were built under licence by the Department of Aircraft Production in Australia. As the Mk 21. home-built aircraft served with five squadrons of the RAAF, "Aussie Beaus" operating across the South-West Pacific in the long-range ground-attack role, but most formidably in the anti-shipping role, it becoming one of the most successful aircraft of WWII in this field. Armed with a mix of machine guns, cannon, rockets and torpedoes, they earned the Japanese nickname “Whispering Death” for their near-silent approach. Darryl's art print, which shows an aircraft of 30 Squadron strafing Japanese supply ships during the Battle of the Bismarck Sea, is a testament to the heroism and combat record of this most wonderful aircraft and her crews.
