Nakajima A6M2-N "Rufe" Japanese Aviation Art Print by Darryl Legg

Floatplane Fighter for the Empire - The Nakajima A6M2-N

Jiro Horiskoshi's masterpiece, the A6M Zero, was to maintain air superiority for the Japanese Navy from its introduction in the air war over China during 1940 until the arrival of newer Allied aircraft in the Pacific in mid/ late 1942. With many small islands to defend and a lack of suitable landing strips, the design of a floatplane fighter using the A6M as its base was undertaken by Nakajima, due, in part to that company's greater manufacturing capacity and the amount of work Mitsubishi was already undertaking with other projects. The fitting of the sleek Zero with floats resulted in a considerable loss of performance, but it was reasoned, with some logic, that the aircraft would mainly be intercepting reconnaissance and bomber aircraft.

Once again Hansen Fine Art are pleased to release an Aviation Art Print portraying one of the Second World War's less well-known aircraft , and we feel the Darryl's painting has done the aircraft great justice
