Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Ib Aviation Art print
Wartime Britain could produce some very unorthodox situations. Never was this more the case than when a machine of war and the peaceful, pastoral landscape of Britain were juxtaposed against one another.
In Charles J. Thompson’s aviation art print a Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Ib sits awaiting the next flight with parachute and starter trolley at the ready while a winding stream finds its way through and a Kingfisher sits on a branch ready to pounce on its next meal. The Mk.Ib version of the Spitfire was the first to use cannon and 92 squadron took a small number into combat during the Battle of Britain. Due to defective feeds the cannons often jammed resulting in most Mk.I and Mk.II retaining their full machine gun armament until a satisfactory solution could be found.
