Brewster Buffalo New Zealand Fighter Aviation Art Limited Edition Print by Aviation Artist Darryl Legg
Born
in Gisborne, New Zealand in 1916, Geoff Fiskin graduated as a Sergeant pilot in
1941 and would find himself as a pilot with first 67 and then 243 Squadron
flying the Brewster Buffalo.
Both
Squadrons relied heavily on pilots from New Zealand and Australia and as such
the units did not become fully operational at Kallong, Singapore until October
1941 when 67 Squadron was transferred to a different base, Fiskin joining 243
Sqn.
He would fight with this unit and the combined 243 / 453 Sqn until the fall of being seriously wounded in early February 1942, days before the final fall of the Singapore.
Geoff
Fiskin would go on to fly further combat sorties, adding 5 victories with the
P-40 to his 6 in the Buffalo, making him the most successful Commonwealth pilot
against the Japanese.
