Building A Missing Link - The GWR Grange Class
The new-build Grange class 4-6-0 6880 Betton Grange is seen thundering out of Twerton Tunnel near Bath.
Built between 1936 and 1939, the 80 Grange class locomotives were designed for mixed traffic work and replaced several older designs, notably the 4300 class.
Known to enthusiasts as the 81st Grange, 6880 was built over a period of some 25 years, utilising parts from a number of other locomotives and new-build components. She first steamed in 2024.
