Steam Train Birthday and Greeting Cards - LNER P2 Class 2001 Cock O' The North

Stepping back in time to the 1930s and an apple green behemoth of a locomotive pulls an eight-coach train into the Scottish heartland. The locomotive, 2001 Cock ‘o the North, was the first of a new powerful class, built specifically for the routes of northern England and Scotland. The largest passenger locos ever made in Britain, the P2 were not an overly successful design despite their size. 2001 is seen in its second guise with A4 styling replacing the original air-smoothed casing it had been built with. It would be thoroughly rebuilt, along with its classmates, in the 1940s into rather ungainly Pacifics.

This stunning railway art birthday card by Malcolm Root captures the grace and power of these wonderful engines of which, sadly, none survive.
