Steam Train Birthday Fathers Day Card of a British Railways B17 4-6-0 by Railway Artist Malcolm Root
Doyen of one of the most successful 4-6-0 classes
developed in Britain, 61600 Sandringham had originally been built by the LNER
as B17 class no.2800 for the former Great Eastern section of the railway.
The type proved so successful that 72 further
locomotives were built in five batches which led to six sub-types (B17/1-6),
the most interesting of which were probably numbers 2859 East
Anglian and 2870 City of London which were
streamlined in a manner similar to that used on the A4 Pacifics.
