Midland Railway Compound 4-4-0 locomotive Blank Birthday Greetings Card by Philip D. Hawkins FGRA

Painted in sepia and ochre tones, Philip D. Hawkins FGRA captures the atmosphere of a late 1920s scene as an ex-Midland Railway compound thunders out of the then LMS terminal. The original design, by Samuel Johnson, had been introduced in 1902 and was the first truly successful ‘compounding’ locomotive in Britain. With further improvements and alterations by Johnsons successors the locomotives were to eventually number 240.

This railway birthday and greeting card would appeal to anyone with a love of the LMS or railway art in general
