Developed in response to a growing Soviet naval threat in the 1950s, the Blackburn Buccaneer proved to be a highly effective low level strike aircraft capable of operating from either airfields or carriers. First deployed by the Royal Navy in 1962, followed by the RAF in 1969, the Buccaneer gave many years of front line service, including operations in the first Gulf War, before its eventual retirement in 1994.
