The Hercules is the RAF's primary tactical transport aircraft and has been the backbone of UK operational tactical mobility tasks since it was brought into service in 1966. Its performance, flexibility and ability to use rough airfields have proven invaluable to the RAF in numerous situations over the years. With a heritage going back to its introduction by Lockheed in the mid-1950s, the Hercules has been continually modified and updated to meet evolving demands and it is likely to remain in service for many years to come.
