A founder artist and director of Hansen Fine Art, Lee Lacey GAvA has been passionate about military history, aviation and railways from a young age. It was while attending a model railway club in his early teens that he was offered the chance to learn to paint from one of the other attendees and, from this humble beginning, a career has spawned.
Through another chance meeting with Jim Hirons, a former car designer at Ford motor company and member of the Guild of Aviation Artists, Lee was introduced to the organisation and, most importantly, Charles J. Thompson GAvA, ASAA and Roger H. Middlebrook GAvA. These two artists would have a great deal of influence on his work and would guide him in his formative years. In 2001 he had his first painting accepted for the Guild of Aviation Artists annual exhibition and Lee freely acknowledges the role of the Guild in his success story. As such Hansen Fine Art sponsors the Guild in the hope of supporting other artists on the first steps of their career.
After time as a teacher, Lee, together with four others became the founding artists behind Hansen Fine Art and the company's first order was received in February 2012. Unable to find motorcycle or automotive artists, he was to start painting these on a regular basis and from 2013 started his series of "Something else with an aircraft" paintings where the main subject could be a motorcycle, railway locomotive or car with an aircraft overhead or in the background. In the time since the first one, "The Speed Twins", was painted, he has become synonymous with this style of painting.
Due to business and family commitments, Lee is not available for commission but a large number of his original paintings are available through Hansen Fine Art.
