View full detailsStephen Chard GAvA has had a life-long passion for aircraft, to such a degree that he still proudly has the school report where his teacher wrote ‘if only Stephen would spend as much time on his studies as he does looking out of the window at aircraft!’
Always quite 'arty', and having spent many years watching aircraft and making models, a natural progression was to start painting them. Stephen has a particular interest in the history of British aviation and airfields and he finds his art a great way to portray the richness of the aviation scene of the past. To this end, he finds the research involved in the preparation of a painting to be as enjoyable as the application process (and a good excuse to buy more aircraft books!).
Having received no formal art training, he puts much of his success down to his membership of the Guild of Aviation Artists, joining the organisation in 2007. It was here that he began to learn and develop his own style and he has been a regular exhibitor at the GAvA ‘Aviation Painting of the Year’ Exhibitions ever since.
Over the years he has received several awards at the exhibition including best WWI subject, best De Havilland subject and best group. He is now a Full member of the Guild.
Stephen is available for commission and should you wish to own an original painting, please contact us via our commissions page
