On the 4th October 1958, 2 De Havilland Comet 4s of British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) made the first scheduled jet passenger service flights across the North Atlantic. One from New York to London and the other from London to New York (with a fuel stop at Gander). Comet G-APDB (depicted) made the Eastbound crossing in the then record time of 6 hours 11 minutes. This aircraft is now preserved at IWM Duxford and belongs to the Duxford Aviation Society
