The peace and tranquillity of the pre-war railway scene is beautifully caught in this card by John Austin FGRA. Small branchlines were the very heart of the south-west and made movement through Somerset, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall much eaier in a word where the motorcar had not yet taken hold.
At a time when cleanliness and punctuality were the watch-words, this 45xx class 'Small Prarie' meanders along a small branch on a local passenger train.
