Lee Lacey - The Big Twins- Triumph Bonneville and Gloster Javelin (W)
Triumph Bonneville British Motorcycle and 23 Squadron Gloster Javelin Motorbike Blank Aviation Art Card by Artist Lee Lacey AGAvA
One of the premier motorcycles of the 1960s, the Triumph T120 Bonneville was steadily improved throughout the decade and remained in production until the 1980s. This 1961 model would take Triumph to the top of the motorcycle world and become extremely sought after in the USA.
The aircraft behind the Bonneville is a Gloster Javelin FAW.9 of 23 Squadron based at RAF Middleton St.George. The Javelin would be Britain's main night fighter for much of the 1960s, replacing the same company's earlier Meteor night fighter. Armed with four 30mm cannon and four Firestreak missiles, this large aircraft was ideally suited to its task.
Both machines were the epitome of their class at the time and represent the very best of 1960s British engineering
